Glowing Cityscapes Painting Workshop with Vanessa Lacy

Join Kansas City artist Vanessa Lacy in her Crossroads studio for a unique workshop dedicated to capturing the city's luminous beauty. On Saturday, November 8th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., you'll learn the secrets behind her signature glowing cityscapes.

This class is a deep dive into color theory and paint application, focusing on how to use a dynamic combination of brushstrokes and palette knife work to create light and atmosphere. Vanessa will demonstrate her process by recreating her piece, "Candied KCMO," a stunning golden hour scene.

The workshop includes:

  • An artist demonstration of color mixing and paint application.

  • An 11" x 14" canvas pad with a cityscape already sketched out in pencil. This allows you to skip the drawing phase and focus on the fun of color mixing and painting.

  • Personalized instruction as you work on your own piece.

To make the most of your time, please plan to bring a reference photo of a sunrise, sunset, or golden hour city scene. If you prefer to paint your own composition, you can bring an 11" x 14" canvas with your drawing already sketched out. Or you can choose to use a canvas provided by Vanessa which will be already sketched out with an image of "Candied KCMO."

There will be a lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. so you can relax, explore the nearby Crossroads restaurants, or even enjoy the exhibitions at the Leedy Voulkos Art Center, located just below the studio.
